Description

Professor Hilgard, early UC pioneer of grapevine trial plantings

The Jackson Vineyard was an abandoned UC Foothill Experiment Station near Jackson, California. Originally systematically planted with grapevines and fruit trees in the 1880's, it was rediscovered by Dr. Austin Goheen, and some of the vines were propagated to become source plants for Foundation Plant Services. A detailed account of its historic viticultural importance, as told through a letter from Dr. Goheen, is included below.
